Appeal Cases
The Team reviews cases and takes instructions from representatives or individuals preparing a submission to the CCRC or appealing a conviction. Where possible, this is carried out pro bono. We also work closely with charities that provide support to individuals and families dealing with these types of cases, and are also members of the Inside Justice Advisory Panel.
We can help by:
-
Advising in the immediate aftermath of a conviction in preparation for appeal
-
Helping to identify the strengths and limitations of scientific evidence in the context of a potential appeal
-
Producing 'Advisory Reports' regarding scientific evidence before submission of an application to the Criminal Cases Review Commission (CCRC)
-
Putting the scientific evidence into context with the case circumstances / your client's account
-
Reviewing trial papers to assist in the preparation for appeal or submission to the CCRC
-
Undertaking a comprehensive review of the forensic case files and advising on forensic strategy / opportunities
-
Working with an extensive network of trusted collaborators to provide a one stop shop in preparing for appeal
-
Connecting you to support networks and charities that are dedicated to empowering individuals who have been convicted of a crime that they say they did not commit, and who work closely with statutory and voluntary partners across the UKCJS
If we are unable to help with your particular enquiry we have an extensive network of trusted collaborators and we will try and put you in touch with someone who can.
